How New Mexico regulates e-bikes
New Mexico recognizes Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 e-bikes. The state-specific age and helmet rules are: A person under 16 may not operate a Class 3 e-bike on a street, highway, or bicycle path. A person under 16 may ride as a passenger on a Class 3 e-bike that is designed for passengers. New Mexico includes electric-assisted bicycles in the Child Helmet Safety Act. An operator or passenger under 18 must wear a helmet on any e-bike class.
