I didnt want to break bank on first ebike. The ride is comfortable, battery lasts long, fun to ride and feels very stable. I have been riding almost 20 miles each day since I got it. Pedal assist level 2 and 3 work best.
Just got my Rideal a few days ago and I am very happy with it. There are things I really like about it and a few areas that I wish were different. I hope any criticisms are take creatively and would improve future bikes. First, I like that the shipping box has a picture of a flat screen TV on it. Not sure if shippers would be more of less likely to toss it around because of this. The high step is BIG the 27.5" rims and beefy design make it feel very large. I'm just about 5'10" and stand over is comfortable but I would say borderline. I would think a slight scale down of the overall frame would suite many more riders. The frame contouring on the down tube is pretty cool to accommodate the battery and join the head tube. As with any bike in a box, from the cheapest to the most expensive, it requires a thorough setup to make things good (brakes, shifting, every nut and bolt). A couple things that I discovered that were less than optimal; the seat clamp was torqued to about 1000lbs I almost gave up hope trying to loosen it, the front axle was too tight and needed adjusting and grease to not be crunchy, the cluster of wires under the bottom bracket are not pretty and I don't like how they are so unprotected. Tires are just OK I already ordered others with some more substantial flat protection, changing that back tire on the road would not be fun. I wish there was some sort of indicator that the throttle is on, a light or a beep or a click. Again, this bike feels big and weighs a lot, if you have to carry this up more than a flight of stairs good luck. I don't mind the simple controller, the bigger the screen the more likely to scratch or break, I do kinda miss a speedo though. I got the racks and they are really nice securely bolted directly to the frame. The larger size does give the bike a nice stable secure feeling on the road. Like having the derailleur, many bikes in this price range are single speed and that would not be good on an unassisted ride home. I haven't done a max mileage test but my 4-5 mile commute back and forth didn't even drop the indicator down one light. Overall happy with my Rideal, hope I can get a bunch of miles in on it before CT weather hits.
Supply chain disruptions out of Ariel Rider's control meant I didn't receive my D Class for 6 months. While that was frustrating, I can't hold Ariel responsible for that. They even credited me a total $250 over the course of 2 separate refunds to express their own apologies and frustrations with the situation on their customers' behalf. That's something I never asked for, which tells me that this company is really trying to win and retain customers with good customer service, in addition to having quality products. Simple research alone will tell you that a responsive company separates themselves from the pack of others simply looking for a quick sale and then disappears when there's a problem.
Out of the box. . .assembly was pretty simple, though I was missing one screw in my package to attach the front fender/mudguard. I reached out to support and was actually sent out another fender (with screw), so they made more than right on that point which is nice.
After assembly and getting on to ride I realized that I could not get the bike chain into gear 6 or 7. After a quick you tube search I was able to see how the rear chain derailleurs work and traced the issue to a bent guard/bracket that was blocking the full range of the derailleur. It may have gotten bent during shipping - not sure. I was able to take it off, bend it back into shape easily and all gears are working as they should now.
The last item, unresolved, is a strange sound that the motors make between 19-21mph. I have read another customer comment about this and not sure if it's caused by some internal limit or if it's just a vibration that hits at that particular speed. I did get in to the menu to change the speed setting. It made the sound when the limit was 20mph and it still makes the sound while passing through that speed on the way to 30mph. While the bike works fine , it's an unpleasant sound I wish could get resolved. I have sent a video to Ariel Rider and asked for a follow up to it. I have a feeling this is a broader issue than just my bike and there may not be a fix to it. I am still hoping for an answer from Ariel Rider, but giving them a pass because I can imagine with all the bikes they sent out at the same time they're staff is probably extended pretty far as they respond to numerous customers.
With the above said, I REALLY like this bike A LOT! I did a lot of research that lead me to this bike and am totally pleased with its quality and performance - only wishing I got a little more life from the battery-even though the life is pretty good. Riding it "hard" will get about 20+/- miles on a full charge. The bike is actually comfortable to pedal, but let's be real. . .this bike is meant to throttle. The bike quality is very good. Acceleration is good, dual motor is a blast and the comfort of the seat is not to be understated! You will appreciate the seat when speeding through a bumpy field or trail.
Count me in as an Ariel Rider fan! If I could offer one suggestion - consider a model for females. My spouse is intimidated by the size of the D Class and looking for more of a "girl's style" frame.
Can we ride it on the street if it goes fast cause in Manchester NH we can't ride it on side walks
Loving this bike. Very solid, beautiful red color, pedal assist kicks in when it should. Great on hills, very solid on smooth trails. More than price competitive. Glad I got this one with the gears, as they help tremendously launching and controling the speed. One thing you might factor: it took me a while to get used to the throttle on the right handle bar. I have very big hands and wasn't sure gripping the trottle wouldn't inadvertently slip or accelerate. But you turn the throttle on and off, so mostly I leave it off, except when wanting to cruise. Just be kind passing folks huffing up the hills or thinking they can outrun you, especially in parts of the country where these haven't caught on yet! I bought this for my commute, but am having too much fun with it.
This bike in is definitely a show stopper. I get people looking and asking me about it everywhere I go. Even got a female Portland officer to order one. I also convinced someone putting $100 a week to gas just for work to order one. This makes me want to run my own ebike store one day. I am.considering getting Grizzly next
So...everyday driver was a truck. 16 mpg - equates to about 20$/week in gas (beats the gym membership I never used). I've dealt with poor drivers on the way into work - now I'm getting used to people waving me through intersections. Max out at 37 mph downhill and 17 mph on a fairly serious hill. Shipping happened in under a week from ordering...of course I screwed up my order, but it was quickly corrected through some pretty good customer service (thank you Breyton)...I had some follow up questions and they were answered within the next day (thank you Chloe). While I need some good glasses, a better helmet and gloves, what I don't need is a better bike. I'd like a brighter headlight - and - a better seat, but really I couldn't find a better bike anywhere near the price.
Nice overall bag. While it's listed as a "tank" bag it fits perfectly on the Rideal's rear rack. Rained at the end of a ride and it kept everything dry too!
After watching YouTube videos, I figured out how to assemble the bike.
Pros: very fast, great blue paint, wide tires for good traction, nice headlight.LCD screen easy to use. Cons: front brake squeals, wish handle bars were further back...have to hunch over to reach them. Took 2 weeks to receive it.
Overall: very fast, not for timid riders. I set at highest assist level and used throttle only, was doing over 20+ mph quickly. For the price, the best electric bike available. I reviewed Rad bikes, Lectric bikes, and this one fit my needs better ...need for speed. lol
Rear rack is nice, but the Qty. 4 mounting screws could be much better. After tightening them as much as possible, two still came loose and I lost one.
A quick trip to the hardware store yielded stronger screws with much bigger hex heads and lock washers. Hopefully these will remain tight while bike commuting every day.
One word. Awesome
Amazing quality and design. Bike arrived in perfect condition. My first electric bike and I love it. Thank you!
